Tightlines-Portugal Fishing Holidays website
John Bate commissioned a small 6 page html website back in 2005 for his fledgling angling holiday, guiding business providing fishing holidays for carp and coarse fish and game fish like marlin and sharks in the Algarve region of Portugal. This served for a couple of seasons to get him started, but it soon became clear that the business needed a bigger and more efficient website to manage the information that was coming from trips with customers, testimonial, and ever developing new venues and hotels.
In to 2009 I undertook a complete rebuild of the whole site and loaded all the existing data into a new Joomla Content Management System that had the scope to develop to match the aspirations of the business, allow regular editing and updates with a blog of news as it was happening.
The site was built with Joomla to ensure the site was regularly updated with content from visitor trips and any new opportunities that migh become available during the year. Security was a big issue and components to ensure full system and database backups are made whenever new content is added. The core system and all added components are updated whenever the provider issues updates.
Many of the key features of the system are unseen and of little concern to the customer and he can get on with his main interest in delivering his services to his clients. Site updates and maintenance are completed for him whenever he provides news or new content and images.
My work on SEO (search optimisation) has helped Tightlines Portugal site achieve the #1 position on page 1 in searches for its prime market with ‘carp fishing in portugal‘ ‘fishing in portugal‘ and many page 1 rankings for other related searches ‘game fishing in portugal’ ‘carp fishing in the algarve’ and the like.

Project Feature - Online Reservations
As a working promotion for the core Tightlines-Portugal guide fishing holidays business an online reservations system was required to ensure that both the business owner and the potential customer could quickly get information to fulfill both’s needs when arranging a booking for a holiday/trip in the Algarve with Tightlines.
A dedicated component for this purpose was installed in the admin area of the site to facilitate both form creation and management, to handle and store inquiries, and to forward these quickly and cleanly to both the visitor and the owner.
Project Feature - Visualise the Trips
To help visualise and sell each kind of holiday/trip a gallery system was built to provide galleries that could be shared across the Tightlines website to help promote the type of fishing and the results of customers trips.
These galleries can be used in single pages of assembled in a full ‘gallery’ section for mass viewing if required.
