Lynx Fishing

New for 2012 was the opportunity to create and supply artwork for this new company with their new and innovative ‘Compression Technology’ system to create knotless rig components (traces, snoods and hook links) developed by and marketed through the Lynx Fishing brand.

This involved initially the illustration of a range of sea fishing rigs and predator rigs all manufactured using this innovative crimping/knotless technology. Alongside this as the product approached launch in 2012, there was a request to provide artwork that could be used for large format displays for promotional events and also advertising material that extolled the values of the new method of rig construction against the original attachment of hooks and similar components like swivels etc using knots knots, dating back to the original bone hooks used prehistorically.

Samples of the artwork created and supplied can be seen in the artwork examples below and on the Lynx Fishing website and adverts.

Additional rigs and add-on components have been illustrated for future Lynx products soon to be released onto the market in 2013/14.

Project Feature - Detail and Scale

To fit in with the planned early promotional work for the new Lynx products was the request to supply a prehistoric ‘bone’ hook to display beside modern style hook and finally a ‘Lynx’ hook.

Research showed the style of hook that might have been used back in prehistoric times, but such images were not suitable or available for such promotional work, so this image of the ‘bone’ hook was illustrated at large scale for the purpose, and is used in adverts and other promotional work.

Project Feature - Detail and Scale

Getting in the right amount of detail in to each rig and component illustration and perhaps more importantly, showing everything in the same scale was an important requirement as these would be required for primarily packaging, but would also be reused for displays and in other similar tasks.

A basic reference measure was used to ensure that if a 80mm rig appeared next to a 100mm rig etc, they were in proportion.

Project Feature - Multiple Uses

Uniformity in the way the rigs were illustrated and as in the previous point, that the scale of components in each matched, to ensure where the rigs might be displayed together they were all appeared scaled to match.

As these illustration were to be used for packaging, medium and large promotional displays, feature in print articles and on the website(s) and Facebook, the originals were created to fit the largest required size and then optimised down for each secondary use, be it packaging or website, thus ensuring clarity and sharpness in detail. This can only be achieved by starting in this way, rather than trying to make a small image fit a larger space…… this a feature of my working practice and what you can expect without needing to ask for it, detailed preparation.
